Iligan is one of the cities of Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Iligan City also known as "City of Waterfalls" is blessed with 23 majestic waterfalls and one of them is the ever majestic Maria Cristina Falls that serves as the hydroelectric power of Mindanao.The Maria Cristina Falls as the “twin falls” because of the rock that separates it at the brink of the waterfall has attracted tourists from various parts of the globe considering that it is 320 ft. tall, making it the third highest waterfall in the country.
In the power plant (National Power Corporation) they also established a new one adventure spot the NPC Nature's Park.
NPC Nature's Park has a mini-zoo where you can see various animals and as you explore the Nature's Park, you can also see beautiful flowers, so beautiful and fresh, be mesmerized with the lush environment so vibrant and rich. NPC Nature's Park has a shuttle car good for 10-14 passengers that would bring you from this park towards the Hydroelectric Power Plant where the viewing deck of Maria Cristina Falls is situated. Iligan the City of Waterfalls has several spring swimming pools to offer. One of the most spectacular of which is the Timoga Spring Pool found in Timoga, Buru-un, Iligan, Philippines. It is one of the several pools found in the area that got its water from the flowing spring coming from the mountains of Iligan City. It is 5-10 minutes away from Maria Cristina Falls and minutes away from El Lauriento Swimming Pool and Mimar’s Springway Resort which are also classy spring pools that offer that same icy cool water and has spacious area with restaurant.
People and its Culture
Iliganons compose of the Cebuano speaking locals and the minority that compose of the Maranao, Tagalog and some other cultural minorities and immigrants from other places. Christians- Iligan is predominantly Christian (93.61%), with Catholics constitutes the majority of the Christians. They celebrate the annual fiesta during the 29th of September with its patron Saint Michael. Nine days prior to the celebration is spent praying or what they call "novena". Muslims- They are famous for their artwork, sophisticated weaving, wood and metal craft, and their epic literature. They are also known for their rich cultures, rituals and beliefs that are passed from their ancestors of long time ago. Lumad- practices swidden agriculture depending on the land's productivity. Usually inhabit in mountainsides with their rich culture, beliefs and especially their way of dressing their way of dressing. Food and DelicaciesAside from the tourist spots in Iligan, Iligan City is also proud of their food and delicacies.
The most popular product in Iligan and the most-bought items when visitors are leaving the city, Cheding's Peanuts, are simply irresistible and it has a unique way of preparing roasted and grease less peanuts. Located in Sabayle Street, near the city's Port Area, Cheding has been a name to be remembered in the city. Sukang Pinakurat is also a product of Iligan City. Pinakurat, a local term which means "surprising" since people who would like to dip in their favorite dishes with this condiment, will surely be surprise by its unique taste. Compared to other lechons, definitely there is nothing compared to the taste of lechons in Iligan. It is known in the region, or even in the country that lechons in Iligan are the best.
